Christine & Eddies Wedding

Posted on January 26, 2012 03:17:19 PM

Well I'm so used to perfroming in druids Glen that it's like a second home to me now. New Year's Eve. How magical is that! To have your wedding on the last day of the year? Again the setting was fantastic with a lovely big Christmas Tree in the reception room. Christine &
Eddie were just made up with happiness and it showed. Both spendid looking but Christine looked the better of anyone in the room. And so she should. That's just the way it is, as the song goes.
Another year over. Let's do it all again.

Jody & Dennis Wedding

Posted on January 26, 2012 03:11:46 PM

When I arrived at Carlton House I met Sam Maguire who was standing in the centre of the room on a slab of ice. Then I saw Franc from 'Brides of Franc', who was the co-ordinator. Nice guy. Anyway it turns out that Dennis, the groom, plays for Dublin, hence Sam on ice. Apart from all of that I thought Jody looked absolutely smashing, very pretty, and the day did belonged to herself & Dennis afterall. Together they were the epitome of pure bliss. The setting of the room was fantastic for the time of year. Towards the end I noticed a girl asking people to move outside and it wasn't long before the room was empty. A strange way to end. Normally a bell is rung. So I stripped down the gear and started to pack it in the car only to return to the room to find everybody in it again! Exasperated I asked where had everyone been and was told the girl was the photographer and she took people outside for photos. Pity she didn't tell me. I felt such an idiot cause I always play until the bell rings for dinner, which thankfully it did shortly after. So my apologies to Jody & Dennis for finishing maybe 15 mins early. It was unintentional.

Karen & Brians Wedding Day

Posted on January 26, 2012 02:58:56 PM

My first time in Brooklodge and what a fantastic setting for a wedding. Karen & Brian absolutely stole the show and looked the picture of happiness together. Kare was a real princess.
The staff at Brooklodge were just so helpful to me and couldn't have been nicer. There was a real fire in the reception room which made it very special. A good day all round.

Eileen & Aidans Wedding Day

Posted on November 25, 2011 04:25:01 PM

I was more than surprised. I thought a lot of people would be getting married on a date like 11/11/11. It seems not however. Well done to Eileen & Aidan for choosing that particular date and also the magnificent venue that is the Garyvoe Hotel in East Cork. Its always all about West Cork and how beautiful it is but let me tell you East Cork equals it. Breathtaking scenery. I left Dublin at about 9.30am and took my time travelling down. Arrived at the Midleton Park Hotel shortly after 12 noon. I had decided to stay over cause of the 'match' being on at 7.45pm and I would have missed it had I not stayed. So I headed out to the Garyvoe about 2pm and set up the gear. The party arrived and we had a swinging time of it for an hour or so. Eileen & Aidan made an appearance and quickly vanished to have some photos done. You could see they were made for each other and looked absolutely resplendant. Too soon the bell was rung and after the gear was packed up I headed back to the Midleton Park for some well earned nosh and to watch the match. Estonia 0 ......Ireland 4. Yippee. A goood day all 'round.

Catriona & Connors Wedding Day

Posted on October 29, 2011 06:24:31 PM

The weird thing about Sat Navs is that they never seem to bring me the same way to the same place. I've now been brought 3 different ways to Cabra Castle and a different way home once!!
Anyhoo, a great day was had by the 242 guests of Catriona & Conor at the Drinks Reception. They were well up for a good bit of craic and were dancing away in no time. A very lively wedding party. I didn't see Catriona & Connor until the end as they were getting photos taken and whatnot. They told me that everybody was telling them how much they enjoyed the performance, which was nice to hear. They both looked very stunning. I only got the one photo throughout the day as I was using my new phone to video some of the day. As soon as I figure out how to upload it to the site I'll have it on sraight away.

Laura & Anthonys Wedding

Posted on September 12, 2011 10:03:14 PM

It was great to return to Cabra Castle again amid the splendour that is there. Stupid SatNav brought me a different way though and as luck would have it there was a road closure, yes the one I was supposed to take! So I had to go into Ardee, which reminded me of a time when I had booked Anghus McAnally to compare one of our concerts. He was telling a joke about a motorist phoning the Guards and when the phone answered he was met with 'ARDEE GARDAI'. You really had to be there. Anyway set up with plenty of time to spare. Laura & Anthony arrived and looked very gorgeous and promptly vanished for photos. The guests were having a ball though. Who should pop into sight only Harriet, an old badminton partner of mine, from when I still had the knees to play it. Turns out she's an aunt of Anthony. Small world indeed.

Michelle & Tims Wedding

Posted on September 12, 2011 10:02:20 PM

A lovely day by the sea in Malahide and the Grand Hotel looked splendid in the sunshine. Had the banter with Tony and staff while waiting for the party to arrive. Michelle & Tim made their entrance and looked very well turned out. A lot of guests from America were asking for different songs and I didn't disappoint. As the guests made their way for dinner I was complimented a lot which is always nice.

Grace & Stephens Wedding

Posted on September 12, 2011 09:44:02 PM

Getting to know the staff in Druids Glen by now, I've been there that often. A big wedding with lovely people from my home 'village' of Finglas. There were lots of 'Sinatra' fans there and they were all singing along. I had an absolute ball. They were throwing requests at me, some of which I hadn't heard before. I've taken them on board and hopefully I'll get to learn them. I was thanked so often after the performance that I needed to widen the door to get my big head out through it. Rather than a laid back 'quiet' performance it actually turned into a cabaret. After a few encoré I was getting 'looks' from the manager who wanted the guests to go into the dining room, like NOW! Grace & Stephen arrived to huge cheers and hugging & kissing. They looked stunning. Had a chat with Grace's dad who was more than pleased with the way the reception went. Can't get better than that.

Ali & Stuarts Wedding

Posted on September 05, 2011 12:05:48 PM

It's was hard to find but as Ali said, worth it! Ballybeg House is a gem. Hidden away in an area of some stunning and breathtaking beauty, through some of the sleepiest villages, on back roads and byways. And it was 'worth it' when I eventually arrived on an early autumnal day. The sun wasn't shining but it was just right!
I set up in the garden and performed away to the guests who were singing along and enjoying it. Ali & Stu arrived in a merc which pulled up alongside me. When they emerged they lit up the whole garden as the guests clapped and cheered. They looked absolutely wonderful and were both thrilled with the reception. The guests gave me some great praise and lots of requests were done. All happy.

Diane & Gregs Wedding

Posted on September 05, 2011 11:15:40 AM

Didn't realise just how big Dundalk has become until I went to Diane & Gregs wedding on Friday 26th Aug last. It was held in the Crowne Plaza on the outskirts of the town. A beautiful hotel and lovely staff. Couldn't understand though how round pin sockets are in use in a newly built hotel? Surely this went out with the indians? My thanks to Patrick who sorted out the problem. Anyway, Diane & Greg, who both looked stunning, went out of their way to make me feel very welcome. The guests were up for a good day and from the comments I got I didn't disappoint. Diane & Greg invited me to have dinner with the guests which was extremely nice of them. I instead opted for some barfood. Greg very kindly paid for this and I thank him very much. His generosity was hugely appreciated. So with a full stomach, always nice after a gig, I headed back to Dublin.

Susan & Pauls Wedding Day

Posted on August 13, 2011 03:55:58 PM

I didn't think Naas could be as big as I found it. Been a long time since I travelled through the town, what with the motorway by-pass and that. So I wasn't prepared for the new areas that have obviously sprung up over the intervening years. The Osprey Hotel is a lovely place indeed. All shiny and new but with a lot of charm besides.Only gripe I had was that I was performing upstairs. Hate carrying gear! Anyway this was a big wedding and the guests were definitely up for it from the start. I got straight into it and the banter was class between us. Susan & Paul only arrived with about half an hour to go but they said all the guests were asking about me, which is great to hear. When they did arrive they lit up the room even though there were guests there who wouldn't be out of place in Paris or New York! After I packed the gear away I was hank as usual and I went downstairs for some grub. Had a lovely meal and couldn't move for a while I was that full. Compliments to the staff were well justified. I'll be back!

Marian & Nickys Wedding Day

Posted on August 13, 2011 03:41:52 PM

Out to the very hard to locate Newgrange Hotel in Navan. Its right in the middle of the town which is a one way system. The sign on the main road brings you to it BUT..... you can't make a right turn 'cause its a one way street!! Anyway I found it having stopped twice to ask for directions. It's a lovely venue, and the Drinks Reception area is quaint. Marian & Nicky had the ceremony upstairs in one of the suites and I had a peek at the layout. Very nice indeed. Marian & Nicky looked smashing and were extremely courteous to me. It wasn't a big wedding party but I had some lovely comments from the guests as they made their way to the dining room. I visited my sister & brother-in-law on the way home as they don't live too far away, so a nice day all round.

Kelda & Robs Wedding Day

Posted on August 08, 2011 03:31:58 PM

And so I found myself leaving Dublin at 11am to be in Roscarberry West Cork for 3.30pm start. Just about made it too. It was a lovely drive down, especially from Dunkettle roundabout to the Celtic Ross Hotel. Beautiful scenery. Things were just getting underway as I arrived and I had to get the gear up in double quick time. The guests were great. Made it so easy for me to perform. They absolutely loved it and participated from the start. Lots of requests, especially for 'The Summer Wind'. Kelda & Rob looked fantastic and made me feel very welcome. It was a nice touch to provide me with a 3 course bar meal at the end. Much appreciated. The steak was delicious. Left Roscarberry at about 7.45pm and was in Sands Hotel Portmarnock for 11pm where a few pints were comsumed. On to Navan and Naas next Thursday & Friday. It's great to be busy.

Carole & Tims Wedding Day

Posted on August 01, 2011 12:39:38 PM

On to the very nice and very big Glen Royal Hotel in Maynooth for Carole & Tims Wedding. They were having the ceremony in the hotel and the drinks reception in the 'Courtyard'. It's a special place, kinda like a secret garden. All quiet and serene. It was a lovely warm day and they said it wouldn't rain, so I set up the gear and thought no more about it. I performed away and some of the guests started to dance. One man was doing a boogie, I'm sure somebody has it on video, and it should be put on YouTube. He shouted out to me as he sat back down that he was 91. Fair play to him. Anyway, would you believe, it started to rain at about 5pm. I was getting worried when all of a sudden the bell rang for dinner. Relief! The gear was never packed away so fast! You just can't trust R.T.E.

Michelle & Jacks Wedding Day

Posted on August 01, 2011 12:29:15 PM

It was back to the lovely Druids Glen Resort for the wedding of Michelle & Jack. I was performing at the meal and I have to say the room was looking fabulous. I set up the gear early and went to have something to eat in the bar. I was just finished eating when Cyril Fox, Sil's son, who was the videographer, came in and asked me to make a start as the speeches were finished before expected. So, with a full tummy, I commenced. Had a few requests but one I couldn't do for Elaine was 'Smile', you know, the Charlie Chaplin song. I've since 'googled' it and having heard Josh Groban singing it I will definitely be including it in the future. Michelle was stunning in what I can only describe as one of the best wedding dresses I have seen. She had pre-planned a surprise for Jack. Even though their first dance was arranged for later with the band she had asked me to perform 'Crazy Love', the old Van Morrison song, recently redone by Búble, after the cake was cut. So I called them up and announced the 'plan' and Jack was gobsmacked!
The guys in the band, 'Jungle Boogie' were nearly ready to start so it was time to go. A lovely day.
